Don’t Buy The Lie

“But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.” 2 Peter 2:1

This past Sunday, we continued our study in the book of 2 Peter. He told the church then and reminds us today that there are FALSE TEACHERS that Satan brings when THE LIGHT AND TRUTH OF GOD GOES FORTH. Like bugs clambering to the light on summer eve’s night, so every time the truth goes forth hellish forces responds to counterfeit God’s great truth.

Dear saints, just because someone really believes something sincerely, does not make it true. In Acts 17:10-11 Paul met a group of believers called “Bereans” “Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.” Be Bereans and go to God’s Word and search the scriptures to lead and direct your life in Christ.

I love this story. “A couple of hunters chartered a plane to fly into the Canadian wilderness. Two weeks later when the pilot came to pick them up, he saw the two animals they had bagged and said, “I told you, fellows, I could only take you and one moose. You’ll have to leave the other behind.” “But we did it last year in a plane this size,” protested one of the hunters, “and the other pilot let us take two moose.” “Well, okay,” said the pilot. “If you did it before I guess we can do it again.” So the two moose and the hunters were loaded in and the plane took off. Because of the heavyweight, it rose with difficulty and was unable to clear an obstructing hill. After the crash, the men climbed out and looked around. One hunter said to the other, “Where are we, anyway?” His companion surveyed the scene. “I think we got about half a mile farther than we got last year.” These hunters were confident but not in truth but in their feelings and emotions and it cost them, the pilot and the plane in a huge way. Be Bereans, dig into God’s Word and let Him build your life His way.

May you continue to grow as Peter says in this letter, “in the grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

By His Spirit,
Pastor Bill
