Drive Out The Serpents

“Nevertheless the children of Israel did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maachathites, but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.” Joshua 13:13

Have you driven out the enemy in all areas of your life? Are you allowing the enemy in some form or fashion to DWELL in an area of your life?

This past week, my kids and I found ourselves watching an animal planet special about these particular snakes who were confined to a small island where there was not much food. For this reason, they would go without eating for months at a time and conserve their energy by not moving. Now, during bird migration, they would stop on the island for a rest and land in the trees. The snakes meanwhile would camouflage themselves on the lowing lying branches and wait for a bird that rather than resting with the other birds on the higher branches would perch like a loner on the low-lying branches… The snake would wait for just the right moment and strike the unsuspecting loner bird.

For God’s people in the book of Joshua at this point they had taken the main cities of the land of Canaan. Major milestones had been met, giants had been taken down, and now, land was divided and inheritance was distributed. As believers in Jesus, sons and as daughters, God has given you and I an inheritance. We, have to possess it. Believe God for it and reach out and wrap our arms around it and bring it into our lives. One major obstacle to this is our propensity to FALL BACK IN THE PACK AND REST ON OUR LAURELS. It was the great king David in 2 Samuel 11:1 that began to fall back and rest on his laurels…  “It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the people of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem.” Stay the course. Keep going in God’s direction and let the Spirit do what only He can.

May God’s Spiritkeep you close and keep you high up in the branches of God where the wind blows strong and the light shines bright and the snakes can’t climb.

By His Spirit,
Pastor Bill
