Honor God Today!

“But now the Lord says: ‘Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.” 1 Samuel 2:30

Honor is something that in our society seems to be a thing of the past. Whether in areas of God’s view of marriage, purity in sexual activity, personal integrity, character and especially in areas relating to God and His Word honor has been slowly sucked from the bones of our “progressive” society.

Almost, 100 years ago a Christian man in the public spotlight named Eric Liddell was faced with an opportunity to honor God. Liddell was one of Britain’s great athletes, and later he gave his life for Jesus on the mission field. In 1924 he was to run for Britain in the Olympics when it was discovered that the preliminary heats of his best event – the 100 meters – would be run on a Sunday. Quietly but firmly, Liddell refused to run. The day the 400-meter race came, and as Liddell went to the starting blocks, an unknown man slipped a piece of paper in his hand with a quotation from 1 Samuel 2:30, “Those who honor Me I will honor.” That day Eric Liddell set a world record in the 400 meters. “Those who honor God, God will honor.”

What do you honor or value in life? God’s Word tells us that He is ‘the same yesterday, today, and forever,’ and if you choose to make the Lord the object of your life’s honor and worship you will find that He will elevate and bless your life in ways you could never imagine. Take a few moments and let God’s Word in terms of honor and promotion sink in:

Psalm 75:6-7 “For exaltation comes neither from the east nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the Judge: He puts down one, And exalts another.”

James 4:6 “But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

May God lead you this week to honor Him in your daily life.

By His Spirit,
Pastor Bill
