Luke 19:36-38 “And as He went, many spread their clothes on the road. Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, saying: “‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
Have you ever been in a parade? What do you remember about it? The original Palm Sunday had the energy and anticipation and crowds of the most incredible parade ever.
For Jesus, here in Luke 19 the crowds were pouring into the alleyways as the street was filled for Passover. For Jesus, according to John’s gospel, He had said over and over again that, “His time had not yet come.” But now, as He prepares for the REAL REASON why He came to this earth, His time had come. Now, for the King of Kings, you would probably expect a different entrance, with musicians, and soldiers, and trumpeters proclaiming, “the king is coming.” This is certainly not how our Jesus entered Jerusalem on this oh so special day. Just as scripture foretold, he was riding on a donkey. His soldiers and armor bearers were none other that a band of rugged fishermen that He called His disciples… and his trumpeters were the people as He came. They laid their coats down on the ground on the road for his red carpet and they shouted out “Hosanna,” meaning rescuer or savior. The people rescued Him for who He was and why He came.
What about you? What side of the perception of Jesus would you have fallen on? Would you look down on Him because of His humble entrance or would you be one of the worshipers?
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 “For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.”
Think about that for a moment. If that’s whom God chose are you willing to acknowledge that you are not wise, not mighty, not noble. Are you ok with God saying you are one of the foolish things of this world and that He wants to put the treasure of His Spirit in your earthen vessel and use you as He sees fit? Today, this day, realize God sees you just as you are and loves you just as you are and will use you for His purposes if you’ve just give Him your heart today!
