Remember Your Greatest Moment

1 Samuel 20:41 “As soon as the lad had gone, David arose from a place toward the south, fell on his face to the ground, and bowed down three times. And they kissed one another; and they wept together, but David more so.”

Do you have dark days? Are there moments where you wonder if God’s promises will in fact come to pass?

David, as we study through 1 Samuel, we discover is moving into the lowest point in his life. He will lose every solid thing in his life from his wife, to his position, to his best friend, even to his very reputation.

Arnold Dallimore writes in his biography of Charles Spurgeon, “One of England’s finest preachers was C.H. Spurgeon (1834-1892). Frequently during his ministry he was plunged into severe depression, due in part to gout but also for other reasons. In a biography of the “prince of preachers”, Arnold Dallimore wrote, “What he suffered in those times of darkness we may not know…even his desperate calling on God brought no relief. ‘There are dungeons’, he said, ‘beneath the castles of despair.’

Dark nights of the soul are part of our relationship with our God. As He digs deep down within us as the Potter into our lives as His clay… there are painful processes. In all of this we must not let go of God’s Precious Promises. David, is struggling mightily here, and much of the reason why is he has forgotten his GREATEST MOMENT. When faced with the giant of the Philistines Goliath in the Valley Of Elah… he did not look at the size of his biceps or think back on his own military training but he said with steely eyes to Goliath, “You come to me with sword and spear and shield, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts.” May you be brought back to your GREATEST MOMENT and be restored with strength and courage today in Jesus name.

By His Spirit,
Pastor Bill
