“For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.” Matthew 12:50
When it comes to following Jesus, there are two questions you need to ask yourself: “Am I sticking close enough to Jesus?” and “Who am I walking with?”
It’s been said, “you are who your friends are.” Another good phrase you remember is, “Go with the goers and bless the rest.” There are so many places in God’s Word where He encourages us and even commands us to walk with people that are going in God’s direction. Psalm 133 tells us, when God’ people that are going in God’s direction come together in unity that it’s there that He commands the blessing and outpouring of the Holy Spirit. That’s what we want!
In 1 Corinthians, Paul, the great church planter with a shepherd’s heart warns the Corinthian believers that “bad company corrupts good character.” Simply, the people we spend time with and do life with will influence who we are and the character we have.
Even JESUS, here in Matthew when His own mother and brothers thought he had gone too far in this religious thing… 🙂 said, “who are my mother and brothers… but those who DO THE WILL OF MY FATHER WHO SENT ME.”
Let’s pray this prayer together, “Lord JESUS, we want to be about Your business today, we want to do Your will, what’s on your heart today, and in so doing be your closest family. In JESUS name.”
By His Spirit,
